A former Spoken Word Artist and Sarah Lawrence Grad, Cai has worked in real estate, online publishing and she even had a brief stint as a telemarketer. Currently she works for a company that produces educational hip hop music. At night, she writes her novel.
The project combines her knowledge of poetry, social politics and ethnic studies to create a fantasy story which showcases QPOC main characters, asks tough questions and avoids elves at all costs. She's always been a sucker for the "unreal" with an unquenched thirst to see characters like her in her favorite tales. Her inspiration includes Toni Morrison, Ayana Mathis, Octavia Butler, Maya Angelou, Alice Walker, Neil Gaiman and Stephen King (just to name a famous few). She's keeping an online journal of the process.
Aside from writing, she enjoys reading, dancing, board games that involve doing silly things for points--and she is learning to skateboard.
